HI FRIENDS! Today’s recipe features one of my faaaavourite ingredients: TAHINI! Hopefully many of you already have this on hand, especially if you purchased it to make a few of my other recipes 😉 Now I’m giving you another insanely delicious use for it!

I got the idea for this recipe from my long distance bestie, who I usually Facetime with once a week to talk smack / nonsense and of course, discuss delicious food we’ve recently eaten. Lol. She mentioned a few weeks ago that she ordered a tahini milkshake from a middle eastern spot in Philly (where she lives), and I got extremely pumped to recreate what sounded like the most decadent + delicious marriage of flavours ever. I proceeded to hectically question her about the ingredients + flavour profile, so if she’s reading this (which she better be…), I want to thank her for providing ~inspo~ through her takeout choices, and for putting up with my overly excited train-of-thought (out loud). What are friends for if not to tell you about delicious milkshakes they’ve eaten?

Unfortunately, milkshakes do not quite agree with my stomach, so obviously I had to make this one a bit healthier and dairy-free without sacrificing the flavour. I used full-fat, canned coconut milk to achieve that thick + dreamy texture, while dates sweeten the shake and tahini provides a rich + unique flavour profile. My other bestie (not long distance) was over when I made these, and we both essentially died and went to heaven when we took the first sip.

You would never guess that this incredibly thick, decadent smoothie is dairy free and sweetened only with dates. It's rich, creamy perfection, with an incredible flavour profile from the generous scoop of tahini!

Recipe type: Drinks
Serves: 2 shakes
Gather
  • 1 c. full-fat coconut milk (from a can)
  • ½ c. vanilla almond milk
  • 3-4 large dates, pitted
  • 2 heaping tbsp. tahini
  • Pinch of vanilla extract/powder
  • ¼ tsp. sea salt
  • 8-10 large ice cubes
Create
  1. Simply combine all of the ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth + creamy.
  2. Taste and adjust based on your preference, adding another date for extra sweetness, more tahini, or more ice for a thicker shake.
  3. Pour into 2 glasses and enjoy! 🙂
