Caramelized Onion Green Goddess Yogurt Dip
12 Days of Holiday Recipes - Day 1
If you’re looking for the perfect easy appetizer to serve to a crowd this holiday season, I GOT YOU. I only recently started eating Greek yogurt again and knew I had to promptly make a Greek yogurt dip. I was craving an onion dip but wanted to make it a bit more special, so I decided to combine that flavour with the classic herbs and freshness of a green goddess dressing. The result is a super creamy and bright dip with lots of tang and flavour from the yogurt and herbs, plus sweetness from the caramelized onions. I’ve made this one a few times when having people over and my friends said it’s the best dip I’ve ever made. So get on it!!!
Caramelized Onion Green Goddess Yogurt Dip
Ingredients
1 onion, chopped
Olive oil and/or butter for cooking onion
1 cup plain Greek yogurt or Skyr
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
¼ cup chopped fresh basil
¼ cup chopped fresh chives
1 tsp TJ’s green goddess seasoning (or ½ tsp onion powder + ½ tsp dried basil)
½ tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp olive oil
Squeeze of lemon juice
Sea salt + black pepper to taste
Method
Start by caramelizing your onion. Chop it into small pieces and heat some oil in a skillet over medium. Once hot, add the onion pieces and a big pinch of salt. Turn heat to medium-low and let onions cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes. When ready, the onions should be a deep golden brown. Remove and set aside to cool.
Place your Greek yogurt or skyr in a bowl. Add the cooled caramelized onions, chopped fresh herbs, seasonings and olive oil and stir to combine. Taste and add a bit of salt and/or lemon juice if desired. The flavours will get more pronounced as it sits, so serve right away or place in the fridge for a few hours until ready to serve.
